5x60
Rebecca Phillips is the newly appointed '5x60' Officer at Ysgol y Grango. She is thoroughly looking forward to her role and implementing this new and exciting initiative as part of the school's extra-curricular activity programme.
What is '5x60'?
This '5x60' project, which is supported by the Welsh Assembly Government and the Sports Council for Wales, allows a secondary school to offer an enhanced programme of extra-curricular physical activity to pupils. The concept of the programme, in line with the targets set by 'Climbing Higher', is to raise the level of participation of pupils so that they take part in physical activity for 60-minutes 5-times a week. The programme will also develop new and exciting ways of attracting pupils into physical activity - a particularly important element in respect of those who may previously have shown no interest.
What is Rebecca's Role?
Rebecca's role will be to organise activities that the PUPILS want. Therefore, the ranges of activities that will potentially be on offer are huge - and that will be on top of what the school is already offering! There will hopefully be something for everybody, so pupils don't need to be superb at swimming, or fantastic at football to join in. The more the merrier! Furthermore, her role will include recruiting, supporting and retaining volunteers such as parents, older pupils, students, coaches and hopefully the pupils themselves. Any help will be gratefully received.
