About Ysgol y Grango

Ysgol y Grango, Rhosllanerchrugog was founded in 1906. The original building is no longer standing but the proud tradition of secondary education in Rhos continues within a range of new and purpose built school buildings.

Today Ysgol y Grango is a co-educational 11-16 comprehensive school maintained by Wrexham Education Authority and serving a semi rural catchment area of Rhos, Penycae, Ponciau and Johnstown.

Careful budgeting has allowed the school to enhance and improve teaching and learning facilities throughout the curriculum. We ensure that the more traditional resources of books are kept up to date as well as investing in the latest equipment to maintain all areas of the curriculum.

There has also been considerable investment in new technology for use throughout the school. In addition to two Information Technology Centres in school all Departments have access to their own computers and interactive whiteboards.

The Library Resource area is attractive, well stocked and hence well used. This facility has been further enhanced through the installation of a school-wide network of PCs.

The Sports Hall is well equipped. Health and Fitness is monitored through computer aided equipment and plays an important part in the overall Physical Education programme of the school.

The school has been delighted to open the All Weather Pitch. It is a superb facility of the highest standard. It is a shared resource with the Community in partnership with Wrexham Leisure Services.

The purpose built Performing Arts suite includes a number of practice rooms and an electronic keyboard workshop. A thriving music club performs regularly and the School Choir recently won an award at the 2008 Wrexham Youth Music Festival.
