Ysgol y Grango hosts Inter-Primary Football and Netball Tournament

10 September 2010

Ysgol y Grango in Rhos was proud to host the fifth annual Inter-Primary Football and Netball Tournament. Year 5 and 6 students from Ysgol Hooson, Johnstown Junior School, Ysgol Maes y Mynydd and Ysgol Penycae attended the event.

The tournament was organised by students from year 10 and 11 at Ysgol y Grango, as part of their BTEC Sports Studies course. In their lessons building up to the tournament, the Grango students had to plan the day’s events, organise the fixtures, liaise with the primary schools, referee the matches and record the scores.

Despite the heavy rain on the day, the tournament was a great success. The primary school children thoroughly enjoyed taking part. The Grango students who organised the event did exceptionally well, and their efforts will serve them well on their Sports Studies course. All the primary students involved received certificates for taking part. Mr Garthwaite, headteacher at Ysgol y Grango, presented medals, certificates and trophies to the winning teams.

Mr S Garthwaite (Headteacher, Ysgol y Grango) said; ‘The event was a great success, and all credit must go to the Grango BTEC Sports Studies students who did so well in organising and managing the event. The leadership skills they will have developed will serve them well in their further studies and careers. The event also enabled us to build upon the close relationships we have with our primary school partners. Special thanks also to the following staff at Ysgol y Grango: Mr A Marsland (Head of PE Department), Miss D Whittingham (PE teacher) and Mrs A Harris (Transition Co-ordinator).’
