Sex Education

This is included in the Programme of Study for Science and is also part of the Health Education Course. It includes references to life processes, behaviour, growth and reproduction. The physical and emotional changes during adolescence are also considered. The way the body can be affected by diet, lifestyle, bacteria and viruses including HIV is studied as well as the moral topics of the Religious Education curriculum. The Personal and Social Education course offers students the opportunity to consider and discuss issues of human relationships and moral / social responsibility.

From September 1994 parents have the right to withdraw children from those aspects of the sex education programme that are not part of National Curriculum. The school will continue to develop its teaching of this topic in a way that is sensitive to the needs and feelings of students.

Parents who feel concern regarding this aspect of the Curriculum or who wish for further information should contact the Headteacher.
