The Upper School Curriculum
Key Stage 4 - Years 10 and 11
In Year 10 and 11 a large part of the curriculum is compulsory. All students must study:
- English Language and Literature
- Religious Studies
- Mathematics
- Science
- Welsh
- Physical Education
- Personal and Social Education
- Careers Education
Students also choose further subjects to study. The following courses are currently running:
- Art (GCSE)
- ICT (GCSE)
- Catering (GCSE)
- Geography (GCSE)
- History (GCSE)
- Design Technology (GCSE)
- French (GCSE)
- Physical Education (GCSE)
All students have the opportunity to study a vocational subject. The following courses are running currently:
- Small Animal Care - BTec Award
- First Certificate in Sport - BTec Award (equivalent to two higher grade passes at GCSE)
- Engineering - Double Award GCSE
- Child Care and Education - CACHE Level 2 Award (equivalent to four higher grade passes at GCSE)
- Information Technology
- Maintenance and Repair Level 1
- Hair & Beauty - BTec Award
- Law - GCSE
- Vocational studies - BTec Level 1
It is our intention in the future to provide an even wider range of vocational courses by developing partnerships with local providers e.g. Colleges.
A life skills course is also offered through which student’s achievements are validated by a certificate that is included in the Record of Achievement document.
The school is committed to offering a wide range of qualifications which they may each include in their portfolio. Students are given the opportunity to gain a variety of Key Skills qualifications at Levels 1, 2 & 3.
The Key Skills areas include:
- Communication Problem Solving
- Numeracy Working with Other
- ICT Improve Your Own Learning
Key Skills are delivered across a wide variety of subjects and study events through their school career
(i.e. Years 7—11).
